The Engineers Brigade retained the Chief -of -Defence Forces Basketball Cup after a spirited fight against Moi Air Base with a win of   75-57, as the week long championships came to a close at the Moi Air Base Gymnasium, Nairobi on Friday, 31 August 2018.

Engineers stayed in the lead throughout the game, where they led halfway at 37-25, against the same team they had earlier beaten during the group stages. The five time winners took   home the coveted trophy that had been the interest of 12 teams which turned up for the competitions. In the third and fourth places play offs, Laikipia Air Base overpowered 2 Brigade by 104 -73.  The Ranger Regiment were fifth while the Nairobi team took the sixth position. Other teams that participated are the Kenya Navy, Kahawa Garrison, Armoured Brigade, Artillery Brigade, 4 Brigade and 6 Brigade. The most valuable player of the tournament was Lance Corporal Steve Omollo from 5th Battalion Kenya Rifles-2 Brigade, while the Team Manager of the event was Senior Private Alio Roba from 2 Brigade.

In his address, the Deputy Kenya Air Force Commander Brigadier Simon Wachira commended the Defence Forces Basketball Association for the well-organized event, which, he said, was an avenue for military personnel to explore and exploit their talents in sports, and at the same time improve the capacity of the KDF bastketball team, Ulinzi Warriors. He noted that the most important aspect of sports is friendship and togetherness, which are essential components to the general wellbeing of the Kenya Defence Forces. He appreciated Ulinzi Warriors for their good performance in the ongoing Kenya Premier League title chase, mentioning that he had hopes that at the end of the season, they would reclaim the title which is currently held   Kenya Ports Authority. He congratulated the seven players chosen from the tournament to join the KDF national basketball team, Ulinzi Warriors, for their outstanding performance.

The Commander Engineers Brigade, who is also the Defence Forces Basketball Association Chairman, Brigadier Joseph Ouda expressed his gratitude to Moi Air Base for hosting the tournament, and the Defence Headquarters for facilitating and supporting them. He congratulated the winners and challenged them to continue giving their best even in future.
