Cabinet Secretary for Defence Amb. Raychelle Omamo visited troops participating in the Joint bilateral training between United Kingdom (UK) military and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at the Mpala Camp in Laikipia. During the visit the Cabinet Secretary welcomed His Royal Highness, Prince William Arthur, the Duke of Cambridge on 30th September 2018 at the Forward Operating Base Swara.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) infantry troops will undertake the combined training for a period on one month. The troops demonstrated to the CS a session on Zeroing of variant weapon systems at Mpala farm where the troops were training with UK on live firing was on going. There after the CS joined the troops for a communal lunch culminating with an address to KDF troops.
speaking at the ,luncheon, the ACDF OPD& T Major General Adan Mulata, encouraged the soldiers to keep on fighting and holding ground because they are KDF heroes, he encouraged them to absorb the elements of the training skills and techniques, as they will be called upon to train others in KDF and also across the region. He reiterated that good training coupled with good equipment prepares the soldiers for combat in a dynamic such as the one Kenya is involved in, in Somalia calls for continuous and advanced training.
The Cabinet Secretary later joined the Prince William in a community engagement outreach at Ol Maisor Primary School, Kanamba Village – Sosian, where he handed out sports equipments, shoes and uniforms to the pupils.
Those present during the visit include; UK High Commissioner, Senior KDF Officers, County Governor Honourable Ndiritu Muriithi, Some of the local leaders, Hon Naisula Lesuuda, Hon Sarah Lekorere, Hon Catherine Waruguru and Hon Francis Ole Kaparo, the local and UK Ranchers in the area.
