The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) won 11 awards, in the 15 categories exhibitors competed against during the 2018 Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF). The NITF is an annual event that offers government institutions and private companies an opportunity to exhibit their functions, goods and services to the public.
The awards won include; the Best stand overall, the Best Stand that interprets the show theme, the Best Government Ministries Stand, Best Innovation and Invention Stand and Best Stand Embracing Technology and Communication Systems.
KDF were the 1st Runners Up in the categories of Local Manufacturers Stand for both consumable and non-consumable goods, Best stand in Research and Development, Best Stand that Promotes National Cohesion and Integration Development, Best Organisation in Community Projects/Service and Best Display and Services in Health Sector and Pharmaceuticals stand.
During the official opening of the NITF on Thursday 4, October 2018, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces Uhuru Kenyatta toured the KDF exhibition where he was received by Chief of Research and Development Brigadier Dennis Kamuri.
The President, was accompanied by the Defence Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Raychelle Omamo and the Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Walter Raria, Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla and Commander Kenya Navy Major General Levi Mghalu among other senior officers.
This is the fifth time that KDF were at the NITF, with guests getting the rare opportunity to interact and engage with KDF Personnel from the different Units and Formations. Among the exhibitors at the KDF stand were the Public Affairs Office, The Environmental Soldier Program, Kenya Space Agency, Kenya Army, Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (CIED), Kenya Air Force, Kenya Navy, Disaster Response Unit, Defence Forces Technical College, Defence Forces Memorial Hospital, International Peace Training Centre (IPSTC), Ministry of Defence Agencies including the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme, Defence Forces Comrades Association, Defence Forces Canteen Organization and the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation.
A new entrant at the KDF stand was the Welfare Office. This office, which has representation across all KDF units, is tasked with provision of cross service support to service personnel and their families. The Welfare Office also plays a key role in providing psycho-social support to soldiers and the families of serving, injured, retired or deceased personnel.
