On 15 November 2018, the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme (DEFMIS) organised a medical camp for the Defence Forces Comrades Association (DEFOCA) members who were observing their open day at Mukuru Study Ville, Nairobi.

The day brought together over 100 delegates from all counties and highlights included question and answer sessions with Managing Directors of DEFMIS and DEFOCA, sessions on DEFOCA financial assistance to members, various benefits to members and their families, and a DEFMIS coverage on old age, lifestyle, chronic and auditory diseases, culminating in the medical camp.

Speaking on behalf of the Defence Principal Secretary Saitoti Torome, Secretary Administration Ministry of Defence Mr. Francis Mutei highlighted the importance of medical check- ups particularly in the efforts to ensure that personnel are able to be saved from life threatening undetected diseases. “For this reason I welcome the initiative taken by DEFMIS in conjunction with other partners to organise this camp. I urge you all to take seriously the report and advice you have received here today and make this exercise realise the intended value,” he said. Mr Mutie also praised the DEFOCA members for the service they had offered Kenya and even in retirement. Similar sentiments were also echoed by Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General Fatuma Ahmed.

The event was organized by DEFMIS and DEFOCA in partnership with KCB, Cooperative Bank, AAR Healthcare, Karen Hospital, Starkey Hearing Technologies, KOFC, DEFCO and KDF medical personnel.

Others who attended the function included Senior Military Officers, Managing Director DEFOCA Col (Rtd) Eric Tele, Officers and KDF Service Members.
