His Excellency the President and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, on Thursday, 29 November 2018 commissioned General Service Officer Cadets at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) in Lanet, Nakuru County.
In his speech, the President congratulated the newly-commissioned officers for their resilience throughout the rigorous training.
“The academy has endeavoured to produce junior military leaders who can be relied upon to protect our motherland. Because of the excellent training and good leadership skills acquired from this academy, the Kenya Defence Forces has demonstrated a track record for discipline and respect that is respected nationally and internationally,” said the President. He also congratulated the officers for successfully completion of their training.
“As your Commander-in-Chief, together with the people of Kenya, whom you have been trained to protect, let me say we are proud of you,” he added.
Among the Commissioned Officers were seven allied officer cadets from Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.
The Commissioning Cadets put on a colourful display parade under the command of Senior Under Officer (SUO) Ronald Ogutu of Kenya Army and Cadet Adjutant Purity Birgen of Kenya Air Force. The parade consisted of slow and quick march past, the review order and taking the oath of allegiance.
The C-in-C awarded Officer Cadets who had excelled in different disciplines. The Best Officer Cadet in Leadership and Command and Winner of Sword of Honour award went to the SUO while the Cadet Adjuntant was awarded the Cane of Honour for being the second best in the same category. The Best Officer Cadet in Professional Studies and Winner of Professional
Studies Award was Junior Under Officer Simon Mutogo of the Kenya Air Force followed by Junior Under Officer Long’ole Edward of Kenya Navy and Junior Under Officer Maxwell Ndutu of Kenya Army as the second best and third best recipients respectively in the same category.
The Best Officer Cadet in Character Development and Winner of Commandant’s Award was Junior Under Officer Pius Mutua of Kenya Army, whereas the Best Allied Officer Cadet in Order of Merit and Winner of
Commandant’s Trophy was Junior Under Officer Martin Ojuba of Uganda People’s Defence Force. The award for the Best Officer Cadet in Academic Studies and Winner of Academic Studies Award went to Officer Cadet Kevine Saka of Kenya Air Force.
Present during the occasion were the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Defence Amb Raychelle Omamo, CS Interior Dr. Fred Matiangi, the Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe, Service Commanders, General Officers, Senior Officers, Senior National and County Government officials among others.
