The International Military Sports Council-Conseil International Du Sport Militaire – (CISM) held a Boxing referee and judges course at Sportsview Hotel, Kasarani in Nairobi.
The course runs from 10-22 December 2018 and has various participants drawn from African CISM member states. With the theme ”friendship through sports,” the course is geared towards enhancing good friendship through good sportsmanship.
The Commandant Defence Forces Camp Admin Unit (DHQ CAU) Colonel Jacob Ondieki, who is also the Chairman Kenya Defence Forces Boxing Association presided over the opening ceremony of the course on Monday, 10 December 2018. The Commandant said he was pleased and honoured to officially launch the training on behalf of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) and all CISM Africa Development (CAD) stakeholders. He also welcomed all the course participants together with the facilitator, Mr. Joseph Muthoka – a renown International referee and judge.
Col Ondieki also thanked all distinguished governments for realising the importance of the training and thereby accepting to support all participants to attend the course. He further urged those taking part to seize the opportunity in order to reap maximum benefits from the course, and endeavour to assimilate as much skills and knowledge as possible from their experienced instructors. “Do not hesitate to seek clarification and more understanding of the subjects at hand,” he advised.
He also commended the Africa Military Boxers who have continued to display exemplary sportsmanship and outstanding performance in major international boxing events and games, “The performance and integrity of our boxers has tremendously and positively projected the image of the African Continent,” he stated adding that all sports fans and the entire boxing fraternity are proud to be associated with this unwavering ambassadorial spirit. The Commandant also expressed his profound gratitude to CISM and the Boxing Association of Kenya for their contribution in kind and finance towards the success of the course.
Colonel Abdalraheem Bello from the Nigerian Army appreciated the Kenyan hospitality and encouraged the participants to interact and develop friendship as stipulated in the CISM motto.
Others present at the official opening of the course were KDF Military Officers, Service Members and a host of Course participants from various countries.
