FRENCH PRESIDENT VISITS KENYA

The President of Republic of Kenya and Commander- in -Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, on 13 March 2019 hosted French President Emmanuel Macron at State House Nairobi. President Macron is in Kenya for a two-day State visit.

Upon his arrival at State House Nairobi, President Macron was honoured with a 21-gun salute. He later inspected a guard of honour in a colourful parade mounted by the 17 Kenya Rifles, backed up by Kenya Army Band. The two Presidents would then proceed to hold bilateral talks.

Afterwards the French President proceeded to the Parliament Buildings escorted by the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla where he laid a wreath at the Jomo Kenyatta mausoleum located at the Parliament Buildings.

The two leaders later conducted a station tour of the Nairobi Central Railway Station off Haile Selassie Avenue before addressing a joint press conference on the proposed development of commuter rail services between the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Nairobi Central Business District.

“I am proud and happy that we are working closely on security, defence, and counter-terrorism to strengthen regional integration and the peace mission in Somalia,” President Macron said.

The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Amb. Raychelle Omamo among other Cabinet Secretaries, Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe, Service Commanders, Senior Military Officers and other senior Government officials were also present at the historical event in which Kenya for the first time hosted a sitting President of France.
