The Parliamentary Departmental Committee for Defence and Foreign Relations touring the Kenya Air Force Forward Operational Base (FOB), Narok
On 15 March 2019, the Parliamentary Departmental Committee for Defence and Foreign Relations toured the Kenya Air Force Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Narok County.
The visit was geared towards engaging the Narok County Government officials with a view to having the County Government allocate land for military use in the area.
During the meeting, the KDF officials held a high level engagement with the parliamentarians highlighting the progress which had been made in the process of acquiring the land
While addressing the team, the Principal Secretary for Defence Mr. Saitoti Torome thanked the County Government and local residents for their support towards the establishment of the Base. The PS said priority shall be given to the local community on matters of employment once the project commences.
The Principal Secretary was accompanied by the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla who underscored the need to re-strategize and establish more military camps to enhance security following the emerging security threats such as terrorism.
The Commander said, Members of Parliament represented millions of Kenyans and their word could influence the populace, adding that Parliamentarians had a critical role to educate the public on the importance of national security.
Assuring KDF of his support, Narok Member of Parliament Hon. Gabriel Ole Tong’onyo said the military camp will boost the area’s economy, infrastructure and help provide employment for the locals.
Present during the meeting were Maj Gen Adan Mulata, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, Operations Training and Doctrine (OPD& T) and the Chairman Ad Hoc Committee on military land, Maj Gen (Rtd) Maurice Oyugi among others.
