On Monday, 15 April 2019 the Kenya Defence Forces officially launched the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) commonly known as Huduma Namba in an elaborate function presided over by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe. The unveiling which took place at the Defence Headquarters is set to pave way for all KDF personnel to register in the new system.
This comes barely two weeks after the President of Kenya and the Commander -In- Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta launched the countrywide registration exercise in Masii, Machakos County on 2 April 2019.
“I acknowledge that some service personnel have already acquired Huduma Namba through the set up Huduma Centres and Chiefs’ offices countrywide. I wish to however, inform you that due to the KDF unique requirements, the Government has made considerations for military personnel to be registered within Barracks/Bases in Nairobi, while Military Barracks/Bases outside Nairobi will be registered by the Sub-Counties registration teams appropriately. The Regional Commissioner, County Commissioner and Sub County Commissioner are the contact persons and will facilitate the process,” the CDF added.
The CDF acknowledged the Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government and the Ministry of ICT for building KDF capacity by training Sixty-three (63) service members as Registration Assistants (RAs) to register soldiers in areas seen as inaccessible.
According to the government, the launch of Huduma Namba will enable all Kenyan citizens to access government services faster and more efficiently. It shall also assist the Kenyan Government in security matters and service delivery to the citizenry.
General Mwathethe further urged the Service Commanders to fast-track the process and ensure that service personnel are registered within the forty-five (45) days, the timeframe already given out by the Government.
