The Kenya Defence Forces Roman Catholic faithful celebrated Chrism Mass at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi on 16 April 2019.

The ceremony was presided over by His Lordship Bishop Selasius Mugambi, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Meru, assisted by Colonel, The Very Reverend Father Benjamin Maswili, the Apostolic Administrator.

The Chrism Mass is one of the most solemn and important liturgies of the liturgical year of the Catholic Church and it is held during Holy Week in every Catholic diocese. During the Mass, those present are called to renew their baptismal promises; priests/ministers and deacons also reaffirm their ministry by renewing their vows made at their ordination.

During the homily, Bishop Mugambi encouraged the Christians to remain prayerful and also to offer prayers for the priests so that they may discharge their duties diligently. “I urge you all to pray for the priests as they renew their priestly commitment today that they may be true apostles and disciples of Jesus Christ. Let us remember Christ the Lord, high priest was taken from among men, made this new people a “kingdom of priests to God, his Father,” said the Bishop as he wished all Christians a happy and blessed Easter season.

It’s also during the Chrism Mass that the three oils are blessed by the bishop; Blessing of the oil of the sick, oil of Catechumens and consecration of the Chrism oil. The oils play an important role in the life of the Church. The actions that take place at the Chrism Mass are important for carrying out the daily ministry in each church in the diocese.

The mass was attended by the KDF Officers, Service Members and their families.
