On 7 May 2019, the Kenya Defence Forces food processing factory (FPF), Gilgil, hosted a delegation from the Egyptian Armed Forces who toured the factory.
The Egyptian was received by the Director of the factory, Brigadier Dennis Kamuri and were taken through a presentation on Kenya Defence Forces food processing factory by the General Manager of Operations, Lieutenant Colonel Japheth Mwasaru.
On the presentation, Lieutenant Colonel Mwasaru pointed out the objectives of the factory among them being to reduce KDF logistical signature in operations thus enhancing fighting power, force protection, sustainability and mobility.
He further noted that the factory enhances national food security and health hence improving the national agricultural market and thus stabilize the prices of food products.
Speaking at the round table, the head of the Egyptian delegation, Colonel Khaled Amin Elkady acknowledged the good work done by KDF on food processing, through continuous innovation and adoption of best practices. “Through cooperation and exchange of ideas, all of us will witness enhanced food processing practices which are vital for high quality products,” said the Colonel.
The Food Processing Factory is a Ministry of Defence Vision 2030 Flagship Project which also supports the Big 4 Agenda on Manufacturing (Food Processing), Universal Health Care, and Food Security and Nutrition.
Present during the visit was the Kenya Defence Forces Project Manager Major Joseph Ochieng, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Mohamed of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Romany Dawood among other KDF officers.
