CS Defence Amb Raychelle Omamo unveils a plaque to symbolize the official opening of the newly constructed Service Members’ accommodation blocks at Kenyatta barracks in Gilgil.
On 22nd May 2019, the Cabinet Secretary for Defence Amb Raychelle Omamo officially opened the newly constructed Service Members’ accommodation blocks at Kenyatta Barracks in Gilgil town.
The structures recently completed in Nakuru County, are part of the welfare and modernization programs undertaken by the Ministry of Defence to provide modern working conditions for the Kenya Defence Forces personnel.
The Cabinet Secretary lauded the commitment made by the Government in ensuring that soldiers have decent and modern accommodation facilities. The CS reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to improving the welfare of soldiers in all the barracks, “currently we have ongoing projects in various barracks. The objective is to achieve decent and modernized housing to improve the welfare of our troops,” she said.
The Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lt Gen Robert Kibochi echoed the CS’ remarks and commended the soldiers for their outstanding and dedicated efforts in defending and protecting Kenya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Present during the event were, the Deputy Army Commander Maj Gen Thomas Chepkuto, General Officer Commanding Western Command Maj Gen Benson Biwott, DHQ Col Projects Col Maurice Owende, DHQ Col Works Col Elijah Mwanyika, Commander Ranger Regiment Col John Nkoimo, Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members.
