President Uhuru Kenyatta Leads Kenyans in Marking 56 Years of Self Rule

His Excellency Hon Uhuru Kenyatta C.G.H., the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces led Kenyans in marking the 56th Madaraka day at the Narok Stadium on 1st June 2019.

The most awaited ceremony by the Narok residents, began with the President inspecting a Guard of Honour mounted by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Ptiony, the Commanding Officer 17 Kenya Rifles (17KR) Battalion.

The march past was by Contingents of the KDF, National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, National Youth Service, Narok County Rangers and the newly-formed Kenya Coast Guard Service, the Kenya Scouts Association, Girl Guides and St. John Ambulance led by Starehe Boys’ Brass Band.

The Kenya Air Force graced the skies during the ceremony by showcasing their prowess with a fly-past in a pack of the fighter jets.

President Uhuru Kenyatta paid tribute to all veterans of Mau Mau and patriots who shed blood fighting for the freedom of the nation.

“Today, Kenya is a country of significance. We anchor the fragile peace and security in our region. We are a generous country that works hard to build peace among our neighbours,” said the President.

The President assured the Narok residents that the Extra Wide Bailey Bridge constructed by the Kenya Defence Forces at Narok Stadium – a replacement of a previous bridge that had collapsed will remain in place until when KDF will construct a permanent bridge.

In attendance were Deputy President Dr William Ruto, Cabinet Secretaries including Cabinet Secretary for Defence Amb Raychelle Omamo, Senior Government Officials, Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi, Service Commanders, Senior Military Officers, members of the Diplomatic Community, Officers, Service Members and distinguished invited guests.
