Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Muslim faithfuls observed an Eid Baraza at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, 12 June 2019. The occasion is held annually to celebrate the end of the Ramadhan fasting period and to thank God for His Grace and His Blessings.
The ceremony was hosted by the KDF Muslim Chaplaincy led by the Principal Imam Colonel Abdulmaliq Rubeya. The Guest of Honour was the Deputy Chief Kadhi of the Republic of Kenya, Sheikh Hassan Omar Sukyan.
In his speech, Deputy Chief Kadhi appreciated the KDF for the support accorded to the Muslim soldiers during the Holy Month of Ramadhan. He further acknowledged the Ministry of Defence for supporting the soldiers’ welfare through the establishment of the Military Chaplaincy for both Muslims and Christians.
“As Muslims, God has given us an opportunity to choose between good and evil and I therefore urge all faithfuls, across the religious divide, to continue living in harmony. You are working in the best institution that allows you to serve God as you serve our great republic,” Sheikh Sukyan said.
The Principal Imam on his part emphasised on the values of tolerance, cohesiveness and brotherhood for all the faithfuls gathered during the baraza.
“We thank God for the completion of the Ramadhan season and I urge you to continue performing the acts of worship as if the season has not ended,” said Colonel Rubeya.
The faithfuls were also addressed by the KDF Principal Catholic Chaplain Colonel (Fr) Benjamin Maswili and the Imam of Jamia Mosque Nairobi, Sheikh Mohammed Swalihu. The two clergies emphasised on the need for continued close and cordial working relations between the three military chaplains from Roman Catholic, Anglican and Islam.
Present during the occasion were senior officers, officers, service members among other invited guests.
