Food Distribution for Likoni Sub County Residents

Kenya Navy personnel together with Kenya Red Cross Society personnel distribute food staffs to residents of Shika Adabu in Likoni Sub County.

Kenya Navy and the Mombasa County government are engaged in an emergency relief food aid distribution in Mombasa County. In the last 3 weeks, they have transported and distributed approximately 100 tonnes of food to more than 3500 families in Shika Adabu, Vyemani and Likoni wards in the Sub County.
The donations are packed in a 26kgs bag of assorted food items (10kgs maize flour, 6kgs rice, 7kgs green grams, 2kgs sugar, and 1kg salt), sanitary towels and a pack of 30 tablets of pain killers.

The initiative is one of the programs by a multi-agency committee mandated to plan, mobilize and coordinate resources to amass donations from various stake holders and volunteers to give emergency relief foodstuff and other basic needs to the less privileged families within the county those affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

The aid is being received and distributed by a multi-agency team comprising of Sub County Covid 19 Relief and Distribution Committee, local administration leaders, National Police Service and Kenya Red Cross Society personnel.

The Covid 19 pandemic has greatly affected key economy drivers’ resulting to the interruption of gainful employment for most locals. To address this national government instituted measures to prevent and control the spread of the disease which include nationwide curfew, restrictions of movement and total lockdown of hotspot areas like old town in Mombasa County.

Kenya Navy is one of the lead agencies in tackling the pandemic in the region through fumigation of prone areas such as market places, Kenya Ferry Service stands and walkways culminating in the ongoing emergency relief food transportation and distribution to the needy Kenyans.
