KEBS representative Mr. Cyrus Wambare awards Commander Kenya Army Lt Gen Joseph Kasaon with the ISO 9001:2008 Certificate at DFMH.
The Kenya Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH) hosted an auspicious ceremony on 3rd July 2014 cerebrating DFMH ISO 9001:2008 certification and the official receipt of the certificate from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Joseph Kasaon presided over the ceremony flanked by the Commander Kenya Air Force Maj Gen Joff Otieno, GOC Eastcom Maj Gen Rono, KEBS representative Mr Cyrus Wambare among other dignitaries.
During his remarks, the Commander Kenya Army thanked the DFMH fraternity for working tirelessly and for offering quality treatment to KDF members. He noted that the milestone attained by the Hospital was a sign of commitment, quality and knowledgeable staff working at DFMH. He however, challenged them that with the Hospital getting ISO certification, they were to increase their service delivery to their customers. “Attitude for good service delivery to KDF personnel should be your core value as we look forward to having even a later ISO in future.” He said.
The KEBS representative Mr. Cyrus Wambare thanked KDF for partnering with KEBS in the journey of Quality Management System. He also appreciated management and staff of DFMH for the efforts they had made to ensure the cerebration of the Hospital’s great achievement. He urged them that the certification would call for more commitment to bet best practices, efficiency and sustainability.
The ceremony also granted the chief guest the opportunity to tour various wards of the Hospital visiting patients who were undergoing treatment. During his tour, he talked to patients one-by-one, wishing them a quick recovery.
DFMH was officially opened on 14th October 1970 by Kenya’s first President, the Late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta to primarily provide medical care for casualties during the ‘Shifta campaign’ in North Eastern Province.
The Hospital has continuously trained super-specialists, expanded its infrastructure and modernized its equipment to be able to offer quality services to patients with little outsourcing.
DFMH is the second Kenyan military institution to achieve the certification after Kenya Ordnance Factory Corporation (KOFC).
