Senior Private John Makwata Wins Top Scorer Award At Safari Park Hotel During The Gala Night Awards On 13 December 2016

It was a colorful event during the Kenya Premier League Awards Gala Night held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi on 13th December 2016.

Ulinzi Stars Senior Private John Mark Makwata (Marksix) emerged the top scorer for the year 2016 after netting in 15 goals in the Kenya Premier League tournament. Also selected for other awards was Team Manager of the Year where Sergeant David Mwangi took the runners up while Corporal James Saruni was among five goalkeepers nominated for an award.

Senior Private John Makwata beat Kepha Aswani of AFC Leopards and Wycliffe Ochomo of Mohoroni Youth to claim the Golden Boot award. The Team Manager of the Year went with George Opondo of Tusker FC. Sergeant David Mwangi took the Runners Up while Pascal Ochieng of Posta Rangers was the second runners up. Corporal James Saruni was among five contenders but was beaten to the Golden Glove by Patrick Matasi of Posta Rangers, Boniface Oluoch of Gor Mahia and David Okello of Tusker.

Spte Makwata thanked God for having made it that far. He urged the Football Kenya Federation President Mr. Nick Mwendwa to help nature talents in the counties saying there were very good talented players who had not gotten exposure yet. He dedicated his Golden Boot to his first coach and was happy to have gone three seasons injury free. All winners also walked away with a 43-inch television set while the runners up took away an LG K10 smart phone.

Present during the occasion were Ulinzi Stars Chairman Lieutenant Colonl Erick Oloo, Assistant Chairman Major Joe Birgen, Team Officer-in-Charge Captain Godwin Baraza and Assistant Coach Corporal Benjamin Nyagweso.
