Amisom VI troops board the United Nations plane at JKIA headed for kismayo to take over duties from Amisom V on 9th January 2017.
The first batch of Kenya Defence Forces troops that were based in Kismayo, Somalia arrived in Kenya on 9th January 2017 after finishing their one year tour of duty.
The soldiers who were part of Amisom Contingent V departed from Kismayo International Airport after being replaced in the various outposts in Kismayo by the incoming Amisom Contingent VI.
Kenyan troops are based in Amisom Sector II and Amisom Sector Kismayo (Gedo, Middle Juba and Lower Juba regions). These Sectors have a multinational force made up of the Kenya Defence Forces, the Burudian National Defence Force and the Ethiopian National Defence Force.
The Commandant Embakasi Garrison Colonel David Keter was present to receive the troops at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
“The Kenya Defence Forces and by extension the country is proud of your high level of professionalism and conduct in discharging your duties. This goes a long way in fostering esprit de corps which is an important part of a fighting unit. I wish you a Happy New Year and journey mercies as you proceed back to your various units and thereafter to your families. Our work is not yet complete, the country still counts on us in the maintenance of security.” said Colonel Keter.
