Commandant National Defence College Lieutenant General Leonard Ngondi presents Certificate to Brigadier General Evariste Murenzi of Rwanda
The 15th Regional Senior Military leaders’ (RSML) Course ended on Friday 24th of February 2017 at the Peace and Conflict Studies School of the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen, Nairobi.
Speaking while closing the event, the National Defence College (NDC) Commandant, Lieutenant General Leonard Ngondi congratulated the participants for successfully completing the course. “As leaders in future Peace Support Missions you desire should be focus on steps that will keep East Africa (EA) Region on the path towards improved regional peace and security for social and economic development .He further said, it is important to reiterate that while peace operations is an important conflict intervention mechanism, they cannot be undertaken in isolation of political, economic, social and humanitarian considerations”.
“In this context this Regional Senior Mission Leaders’ Course was designed and developed to equip you with the relevant knowledge, skills and competencies to assist you engage in planning and management across the various dimensions that contribute to the attainment of sustainable peace”.
“As you leave this centre, I urge all of you to reflect on experiences gained, lessons learned and the personal networks from your class of twenty five participants drawn from four continents”.
Finally, he thanked all on behalf of the Kenya Ministry of Defence, and extended the gratitude to Her Majesty’s Government for their steadfast support to Regional Peace Operations capacity building through the sponsorship of the programme.
The Commander Joint Operations Forces United Kingdom Lieutenant General John Lorimer also congratulated the participants for successfully completing the two weeks course that was meant to strengthen the Senior Leadership within the East Africa.
“I now believe that you have acquired better skills in planning, managing and conducting Peace Support Operations in United Nations and African Union Missions. he said.
The IPSTC Director, Brigadier Patrick Nderitu also gave vote of thanks to the participants for their maximum cooperation during the two weeks course which its theme of strengthening Senior Leadership Capacity in Africa has been achieved. He further said that the RSML course is the senior most courses that have brought together senior regional military, Police officers and civilian equivalents from 14 countries.
This year’s course which commenced on 15th February 2017 and ended on 24th February 2017 was sponsored by the United Kingdom Government (UK) through its High Commission in Kenya.
