The Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) HE President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers under the umbrella of Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Saturday 18thMarch 2017 in Dhobley, Somalia.
The C-in-C was briefed on the security situation and achievements made by the Kenyan soldiers in Somalia. He was then taken through the Dhobley Camp which is home to AMISOM’s Sector II Headquarters in Somalia.
In his address to the soldiers, the president applauded the sacrifices and efforts made by KDF soldiers in liberating many towns in Somalia.
“I assure you that we will do everything to support and stand with you in the fight against the enemy”, said the president.
The president further reiterated that KDF is in Somalia to help the country stabilize; enjoy peace and the fruits of their country and fulfill the international obligations of peace and security.
“It is in these efforts that we have lost some of our gallant sons and daughters of Kenya, their losses remind us of the threat that is upon us, their sacrifice for our freedom and our motherland strengthens our resolve,” added the president.
The president reminded soldiers that Kenyans were fully behind them and constantly praying for their efforts. He added that the tourism sector has been greatly boosted by the security that we enjoy along our borders.
The Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe lauded the president for visiting the soldiers to boost their morale and assured the president that KDF is almost fulfilling its objectives in Somalia.
Present during the function were Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi and other Senior Military officers.
