The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe presided over the Commissioning parade of Specialist and Special Duty Officer Cadets at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA) in Lanet, Nakuru on Thursday 27th April 2017.

Speaking after reading the Presidential Commissioning Parchment to the officers, General Mwathethe challenged the newly commissioned officers to face the task ahead of them with diligence, integrity, self-sacrifice and dedication, as they have been entrusted with great responsibility following their commissioning.

He urged the officers to consider their commissioning as a special bond between them, the president of the nation and the country of Kenya, and guard this bond enviously saying that it was paramount and honor to adhere to the contents of the Presidential Commissioning Parchment and swearing instructions that stand to guide them in their daily service to the Defence Forces and the country.

The CDF thanked Kenyans for their overwhelming support, goodwill and inspiration, terming this as one of the main pillars that kept the entire Kenya Defence Forces moving in the right direction. He said that had it not been for the goodwill and support from Kenyans, the Defence Force would not confidently execute their roles which has been shown in AMISOM and the United Nations in general.

General Mwathethe appreciated and thanked the entire Kenya Military Academy under the leadership of its Commandant, the officers and the general faculty, for their tireless work of preparing the new officers. He urged them to maintain the high level of standards that the Kenya Military Academy has been identified with over the years.

Senior under Officer Anthony Kimanzi Sammy was awarded the best Cadet in professional studies and winner of professional Award trophy, while Cadet Adjutant Jane Oluoch emerged the second-best Cadet in professional studies becoming the winner of the CDF’sprofessional shield.Junior under Officer Geofrey Shibira received the best Cadet in Character Development and Winner of Commandant’s trophy, while Junior under Officer Janice Ngugi Riungu was awarded with the second-best Cadet in Character Development and Winner of the Commandant’s Shield.

The newly-commissioned officers whose professions include Doctors, Engineers, Technicians, Architects, Surveyors among other professions, trained at KMA for five months, with a goal of preparing them for the military working environment, serving the country in their respective fields.

Present during the function included the Principal Secretary Ministry of Defence Mr Torome Saitoti, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lieutenant General Joseph Kasaon, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi , Deputy Army Commander Major General Walter Raria, Kenya Air Force Commander Major General Samuel Thuita, Kenya Navy Commander Major General Levi Mghalu, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces (Personnel and Logistics) Major General Samuel Nandwa, Commandant KMA Major General George Owinow, among other senior military officers.
