KENYA NAVY PERSONNEL PLANT OVER 30,000 TREES IN MOMBASA

Soldiers from the Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe Base recently planted over 30,000 trees at Longo Primary School in Likoni Division, Mombasa County.

The exercise, whose main purpose was to sensitize the students on the importance of environmental conservation, saw the soldiers partner with representatives from the Ministry of Education Mombasa County, the Go Green Mombasa initiative, Environment Trust Kenya, Kenya Forest Service and Equity Bank, Kenya.

Mrs Rehab Nderu, a trustee of Environment Trust of Kenya, thanked the Kenya Navy fraternity for the efforts and good gesture toward preserving the environment through tree planting drives. She also noted that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has played a key role in environment conservation and allocation of resources to make such initiatives a success.

Tree planting exercises in KDF are anchored on the Environmental Soldier Program whose aim is to restore and protect the forest cover in Kenya.
