Force Commander Lt Gen Osman Noor Soubagleh, Sector Commander Brig William Shume, Senior Officers and AMISOM VI personnel salute in honour of Fallen Heroes at the Dhobley camp.
The long awaited visit by the AMISOM Force Commander (FC) Lieutenant General Osman Noor Soubagleh to the Kenya Defence Forces troops at Sector II took place on the evening of 5th November 2017. The FC landed at Sector II Headquarters in Dobley amid heavy rainfall, and was received by the Sector Commander Brigadier William Shume.
After signing the visitor’s book, Lt Gen Soubagleh, was escorted to the briefing room where he was updated on the current situation in KDF operation areas, and was informed on the achievements and challenges faced by KDF as part of the AMISOM VI Kenyan Contingent. Lt Gen Soubagleh made a promise that upon return to the Force Headquarters, he would look into solutions to the challenges that had been presented to him.
Gen Soubagleh later that held a Baraza for the Kenyan troops at Dobley where he praised the troops for the efforts they had put in pacifying Somalia. “You came here to fight the Al Shabaab militants and liberate the people of Somalia from their oppression and you have boldly done so, and our African people will always be proud of you”, he said. He also pointed out that KDF presence in Somalia was very important to the international world and Africa, as it gave a big boost to international peace efforts, and a lifeline to the nation of Somalia. He also thanked the Sector Commander for leading his soldiers boldly; pointing out that his purpose for the visit was to boost the morale of the Officers and Service men who were working tirelessly.
On morning of 6th Nov 17, the FC laid wreath at a monument to honour the fallen soldiers who had made the ultimate sacrifice on the war against Al Shabaab in Somalia. He then awarded African Union medals to Senior Officers, Officers and Service Members as a way of appreciation for their service.
The General urged the soldiers not to despair in this fight, expressing faith that eventually, the enemy would be defeated and overthrown and Somalia would return to peace, stability and prosperity.
Then the force commander visited two other Forward Operation Bases (FOB) in Sub Sector Central of Sector II.. On his way to Afmadhow he passed through Tabda FOB where he held a brief meeting with the OC Tabda KDF camp Major Manyonyi and toured the camp.
The Force Commander later arrived at Afmadhow where he was received by the Commanding Officer (CO) 3 MIB Lieutenant Colonel Ptiony. After the brief at the Afmadhow KDF military camp the Force Commander together with the Sector Commander and other delegates from force headquarters commissioned a CIMIC project that was undertaken by KDF troops serving under AMISOM in Afmadhow. The KDF troops had renovated Afmadhow hospital as a way of giving back to the society and to show appreciation to the local community for their cooperation. Foodstuffs and drugs were also donated by 3MIB troops to the DC Afmadhow Mohammed Sheikh Dakane to be distributed to the locals. The Force Commander then held a brief meeting with the Jubbaland security forces and local administration of Afmadhow who praised AMISOM for the continued support to the locals and vowed to work together with AMISOM in order to maintain the security they had witnessed since KDF soldiers serving under AMISOM arrived in Afmadhow.
The Force Commander was then escorted back to Afmadhow KDF camp where he had luncheon with the officers at the camp officers’ mess and then left for Mogadishu via Kismayu. Upon arrival at Kismayu he awarded African Union medals to the KDF troops deployed at New Airport and later left for Mogadishu.
