China has offered to help Kenya modernise its armed forces.
Chinese Defence Minister Gen. Cao Gangcuan assured Kenya of his Government's support to the modernisation of the Kenya Armed Forces.
Gen. Cao, who is also the vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, commended Kenya's role in the search for lasting peace in Somalia and Sudan.
The visiting Chinese Defense Minister was speaking during a meeting with President Kibaki at State House, Nairobi.
Gen. Gangcuan hailed the continued cooperation between the two countries.
President Kibaki thanked China for its continued support especially in roads construction, saying China was a true friend and development partner.
He welcomed China's pledge to support the ongoing modernisation of the Kenya Armed Forces, noting that the support would not only improve the forces' ability to ensure security along the borders but also enhance Kenya's role in peace-keeping activities in Africa and beyond.
The President assured China of Kenya's support to the one-China-policy and called on the international community to assist in the reunification of China.
