Lt Gen Mwaniki 'MGH' 'CBS' 'OGW' 'ndc' (K) 'psc' (K)

Lt General Njuki Mwaniki is currently the Commandant National Defence College (NDC) following his appointment on 13 July 2011. He has a military career spanning close to 37 years having been commissioned in 1974. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Kenya Army commander.

Lt General Mwaniki is an ardent Infantry General who has held various appointments both in Command and Staff duties such as; Assistant Chief of General Staff in charge of Personnel and Logistics at Defence Headquarters, General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Brigade Commander, Deputy Brigade Commander, Directing Staff at Defence Staff College- Kenya and Army Staff College- Camberly in United Kingdom among others. He was also the Chairman of the Joint Military Commission of the Ceasefire Agreement of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from 1999-2003.

The General has an MA Distinction in War in the Modern World from the Kings College-London University. He is a graduate of the National Defence College-Kenya, The University of Nairobi ( Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies), National Defence University- China and Defence Staff College Kenya. Lt General Mwaniki is decorated with awards like; Chief of the Burning Spear, Order of the Golden Warrior among others.

Lt General Mwaniki was born in the Central Region of Kenya near Mount Kenya . He is married to Loise and they are blessed with three children namely Wanjiru, Mwaniki and Kendi. Besides his military career, Lt General Mwaniki loves bible study.
