He retired honorably on 15 th August 2002 to contest the Kajiado Central Parliamentary Seat and successfully defended the same seat during the 2007 general elections.

His Command responsibilities and appointments included Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Second-in-Command, Commanding Officer and Brigade Commander. Other military assignments included Cadets Instructor, Small Arms Instructor, Combat Wing Instructor, Officer Commanding Cadets Training Wing, Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, Colonel Personnel Kenya Army, Chief Instructor/Deputy Commandant Defence Staff College and Director Liaison Department Office of the President. He was also the Military Adviser to IGAD Secretariat on South Sudan Peace Process until his retirement in August 2002.

He has attended all relevant military courses and seminars throughout his career. He is a graduate of the Defence Staff College class of 1985/1986. He holds a post graduate diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from the United States Army War College International Fellows Programme class of 1996/1997.

The General has participated in many assignments as a member of Kenya delegation on conflicts resolution within the region and as the immediate former military advisor to the IGAD Secretariat on South Sudan Peace Process. Hon Nkaissery is married and blessed with four children.

He is decorated with seven (7) medals among them the Order of the Burning Spear First Class (CBS).
