Nairobi Team Grabs 2009 CGS Golden Cup Football Tournament

Nairobi team grasped the CGS Golden Cup Football Tournament 2009 edition at the just concluded grand final that was played at Langata Barracks Stadium. The annual tournament attracted ten teams of the Armed Forces. The ten day tournament begun on 30 November 2009.

The football match played between the final qualifying teams Nairobi team and the Kenya Navy team was officiated by the Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General J K Tuwei on 10 th December 2009.

The Army Commander was accompanied by the Commandant Defence Staff College , Chief of Personnel, 4 th Brigade Commander, Armed Forces Football Association (AFFA) officials, Chief of Legal, DOD CAU Commandant and other senior military officers.

The tournaments top scorer Tom Ogweno of Nairobi team scored the first goal of the match, in the 35 th minute of the first half. The second goal was scored by Anthony Nderitu during the second half securing the teams success. The Kenya Navy team emerged runners up and received a trophy and silver medals. 4 th Brigade came in third place.

The Kenya Army Commander congratulated the winners and recognized the efforts of all the teams in the tournament. He called upon the officials to select potential and talented players to reinforce the Ulinzi FC team, which will represent the Armed Forces in the 2010 premier league and the 2010 EAC Sports and Culture week in Burundi .

The 2009 CGS Golden Cup Football was eyed by; Moi Air Base, Engineers, Amoured, Kahawa, Mtongwe, Lanet, 4th Brigade and the Artillery Brigade teams...... Pictorials
