AID TO CIVIL AUTHORITY

Aid to civil authority is a key secondary mission of the Kenya Air Force as provided by the Armed Forces Act Cap.199.

Highlights of recent KAF aid to civil authority  include the following:

  • Flight support to government officials in furtherance of national objectives. This is the most prevalent aid to civil authority by the Kenya Air Force. Almost on daily basis, the Kenya Air Force convey government officials to all parts of the Republic in support of the civil authority. Limited overseas flights are also carried out for the same. These include V VIP flights for HE the president in and out of the country. 
  • Delivery of relief food and drugs to various parts of the Republic in support of the National Famine Relief Response operation between 25 December 2005 and 8 April 2006.
  • Air transport support to the National Referendum held in November 2005 by airlifting officials, ballot boxes and results to and from inaccessible and remote parts of the country. KAF has provided same support in previous national elections and by- elections to ensure efficiency of the process.
  • Delivery of relief cargo, medicine and medics to victims of floods in Budalangi, Kano plains, parts of coast province and Tana river basin in April and May 2006 and remaining on stand-by for possible evacuation or search and rescue requirements.
  • Menengitis control in West Pokot in February this year. KAF supported the operation by providing airlift of drugs and medics to affected areas.
  • Collapsed building at Nyamakima. KAF responded by providing medics and search and rescue teams and ground equipment.
  • Fire fighting services in Nairobi and Nanyuki towns. Key ones being the Sadoline Cream Company fire outbreak on 29 September 2006, the Kenya Uniforms Company limited fire, the international Life house fire in September 2006 and many more industrial and residential fires.

HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT KAF AID TO CIVIL AUTHORITY

The Kenya Air Force has continued to provide air transportation support to the government in furtherance of National objectives.
