Athletics is one of the major sporting events in the Defence Forces and indeed the country. The Kenya Defence Forces has remained famous for this sporting event having won the National Athletics Championships for over 20 years in a row and also for having produced many of the finest athletes who have won Kenya many accolades worldwide.

On the other hand, the Kenya Air Force, has been the main thrust of the Defence Forces Athletics success. Moi Air Base (MAB) has won the Defence Forces Championship for the last 13 years in a row thus producing some of the finest athletes for the Defence Forces as well as for the Nation. The Base won this year's Defence Forces Championship for the 13th time at the Moi International sports complex Kasarani in June, 2006. Kenya Air Force is proud of its world famous sportsmen and women who have done pride to the Air Force, the Defence Forces and the Nation at large. These include but not limited to the following:

Moi Air Base

Capt Paul Tergat- Five times gold medallist in World Cross-country champions; twice silver medallist in 10,000m Olympic games and silver medallist in 10,000m World championship. He is also a former world record holder in marathon.

  • Cpl (rtd) Moses Tanui - 1992 Seoul Olympic Gold medallist in 800m;
  • Spte Paul Bitok - 1992 Seoul Olympic silver medallist in 5,000m and Silver medallist in 5000m World championship.
  • Spte Ivuti - Silver medallist world cross country championship
  • Spte Innes Chenonge - Gold medallist 5000m Commonwealth games Manchester
  • Cpl Wilson Boit - Gold medallist 3,000m Steeple world championship
  • Cpl Remi Limo - Bronze medallist triple jump Kualar Lumpar commonwealth games; silver medallist world military games
  • Spte Joseph Mutua - Gold medallist 800m world military games
  • Spte Vincent Mumo - Gold medallist in 400m world military games.

Capt Paul Tergat, a Logistian in the Kenya Air Force is a FIVE times Gold medallist in World Cross country champions. TWO times Silver medallist in 10,000m Olympic games and Silver medallist in 10,000m World championship. Currently he is World Record Holder in Marathon. Kenya Air Force is a power house in athletics.
