Champions of the National Boxing League Kenya Defence Forces Leaves for Algeria

The Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General Fatma Ahmed, presided over a flag handover ceremony for the KDF boxing team going to Algiers for the fifth edition of the African Military Boxing Championship.

Major General Fatma Ahmed who is also the Chairperson of the Defence Forces Sports Control Board, appreciated the combined efforts of all key players including the Kenya Defence Forces Amateur Boxing Association (DEFABA) who have ensured that the boxing team reached this far.

The handover ceremony took place at the Defence Headquarters on Friday, 26 October 2018 and the championships will run from 3rd to 10th November 2018 in Algiers, Algeria. Among KDF’s renowned boxers include welter-weight category Sergeant Blackmoses Mathenge, Corporal Nick Abaka of middle weight category, and heavy weight Lance Bombardier Fredrick Ramogi among others.

The ACDF read a statement on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe, in which he lauded the team and urged them to do their best in Algiers, “The Kenya Defence Forces teams over the years have performed well in regional, continental and international military games and, therefore, I urge you to ensure that the trend of good performance is maintained as this will earn our Country admiration and glory worldwide.” The statement also added, “As you interact with other organizations of military sports in Africa, I urge you to consider your personal safety and security at all times. Maintain high standards of discipline and uphold the image of KDF and that of our Country at large.”

In her remarks, Major General Ahmed assured the boxing team that the Defence Forces Sports Control Board will continue to vigorously support sporting disciplines particularly in training so as to acquire the necessary exposure and specialized training needed for excellence.  “I wish you a safe flight to and from Algiers, Algeria and great success in the championships,” she said.

Also present during the ceremony was Chief of Personnel Defence Headquarters Brigadier Martin Ong’oyi, Commandant Defence Headquarters Camp Administrative Unit Colonel Jacob Ondieki among other Senior Military Officers.
