The Second East African Community (EAC) Defence Forces Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) week officially kicked off in Rwanda on 28 June 2018. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) contingent begun the CIMIC week by offering free medical services at the Rwamagama Provincial Hospital in Eastern Rwanda.

The Kenyan Contingent led by Chef de Mission Colonel (Dr) Justino Muinde, was received at the hospital by Rwanda Military Hospital Commandant Colonel (Dr) Chrysostome Kagimbana, Rwamagama District Mayor Rajab Mbonyumuvunyi and the hospital’s Director Abdalla Utumatwishima.

After a familiarization tour of the hospital, the KDF medical personnel were deployed to the various departments within the hospital as per their specialisations.

Colonel (Dr) Muinde challenged the personnel to give their best, and maintain a cordial relationship with their Rwandese counterparts as well as the Rwandese population, in the spirit of the EAC. He stressed on the importance of the exercise as a unifying factor within the region.

Other contingents from the EAC member states have also been deployed to various hospitals in the country for the same exercise. The CIMIC exercises will conclude on 03 July 2019, which will pave way for the celebration of the Rwanda’s Liberation Day on 04 July 2019 in Kigali.
