Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mrs. Rebecca Miano led a delegation from KenGen to pay a courtesy call on the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Nairobi, on Tuesday, 16 July 2019.

On arrival, the KenGen delegation was received and hosted by Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Personnel and Logistics (ACDF P&L) Major General Fatuma Ahmed.

The visit was informed by a KenGen-led Women Empowerment Forum dubbed ‘Pink Energy’ in which KDF participated earlier in the year.

“I would like to thank you and KDF for your support and participation in this year’s Pink Energy Forum. It was heartwarming and we would like to continue engaging you on the same,” said the CEO.

Mrs. Miano also said that it was inspiring to see women rise in the military and excel in their day-to-day duties. She further added that she hoped to continue developing partnership with like-minded institutions to strengthen the agenda for women empowerment.

On her part, the ACDF elaborated on the structures and governance systems that support the push for women empowerment within KDF.

“We have a gender policy that incorporates gender perspectives. We don’t have specific programmes for women but we have to adhere to the overall implementation of the gender policy. Besides, women are represented in all positions of leadership in the military,” said Maj Gen Fatuma.

Others present during the discussion included Chief of Logistics DHQ Brigadier Alphaxard Kiugu, Chief of Personnel DHQ, Brigadier Dixon Chivatsi, Colonel Legal Services DHQ Colonel Yvonne Kirui and Colonel Joyce Sitienei from the International Peace Support Training Centre.
