Kenya Defence Forces officers and Instructors from the Recruits Training School (RTS) led by the General Officer Commanding Western Command Major General (Maj Gen) Joseph Kivunzi donated desks and sporting equipment to nine primary schools in Baringo County.

Speaking during the handover of the equipment, Maj Gen Kivunzi said Kenya Defence Forces values education and the donations are meant to supplement what the Ministry of Education is doing in provision of learning materials to facilitate smooth learning in schools.

‘‘KDF recognizes that education as a key pillar in building a strong generation and the nation at large. Therefore, we will cooperate with all agencies to ensure that our children get the best to succeed in their education,’’ said Maj Gen Kivunzi.

The donation of the learning equipment was done by the KDF as a sign of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) given that Baringo County a Military Training Areas (MTAs) where its personnel practice and sharpen their combat skills.

The primary schools that benefitted from the learning materials include Lobelee, Moinonin, Loruk, Cheptunoiyo, Sunrise, Chemolingot, Ng’inyang, Lemuiyek, and Chepilat Primary schools.

The local residents and school going children were also sensitised on the Unexploded Ordnances (UXOs) where they were urged not to collect any metallic item that may have been left behind in the MTAs and to report any suspected items they find.

Baringo residents also benefitted from free medical services from KDF medical personnel who treated them of several ailments. The medical team also offered free mobility ambulance services to patients referred to Kabarnet County Hospital.

The event was graced by the Commandant RTS Brigadier Peter Njiru, RTS Chief Instructor Colonel Charles Oduor, Teachers Service Commission Regional Curriculum Support Officers, and the local administration leaders.
