His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces presided over the inauguration ceremony of Modika Barracks in Garrisa County and consecutively launched a Kenya Army Book titled, ‘The Soldier’s Legacy.’
Modika Barracks, inagurated on 13 December 2019 is going to be home to the 6 Brigade Headquarters. The formation became fully fledged when the first Commander (current Kenya Army Commander) Lieutenant General Walter Raria was appointed its first Brigade Commander in 2012. The brigade is currently headed by Brigadier Paul Njema.
The establishment of this camp as reiterated by His Excellency the President, will impact positively on the Army’s ability to respond to challenges in the contemporary security environment. Similar programs will be rolled out to other regions in order to align with the overall security strategy.
The Commander-in-Chief while launching the army book said, “The Soldier’s Legacy, is a testimony of the journey of courage, duty, honor, sacrifice and service to the nation that our men and women in Uniform are renowned for. It takes sacrifice, discipline and dedication to defend the Nation. Let all of us remember though that the defence of our Nation is a collective responsibility and not the job of just our security organs. We need to remain vigilant and united against those who may wish us harm.”
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Defence Forces, Principal Secretary of Defence, Service Commanders, serving and retired generals, Garissa County leadership and KDF senior officers among other invited guests.
