Kenya Defence Forces Medical Scientific Conference Chairman, Col (Dr.) C M King’ori addresses the conference at Kenya School of Monetary Studies on 13th February 2020.

Kenya Defence Forces held its first ever Medical Scientific Conference under the theme; Healthy Force, Protected Nation. The two-day event was officially launched by the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces Operations Doctrine and Training Major General Jonah Mwangi.

The event which is being held in partnership with various multinational Pharmaceutical Companies has attracted 180 medical personnel, drawn from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) tri-Services and the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH).

In his address Major General Mwangi expressed the importance of the forum emphasizing that it provides a platform for researchers, experts and practitioners to engage and enhance their capabilities.

“We cannot overstate the importance of health operations both as a force multiplier, and as a measure to promote and conserve the wellbeing of service personnel by preventing injuries and illnesses, and protecting the force from multiple health hazards that characterize the operating environment. These measures are crucial in ensuring a healthy and fit force capable of preserving its combat readiness, in defense of the country, he added.

To highlight the significance of the conference, the Chairman, Medical Scientific Steering Committee, Colonel (Dr) Charles King’ori, stated that KDF operates in some medically unmapped areas of our own and neighboring countries, in extreme weather and climate all in the background of poor road networks. Hence these challenges demand solutions and present opportunities for research and innovation.

The conference, will be an annual event, whose aim will be to provide a platform for presenting and sharing research findings for peer review and hopefully stimulate fresh research activities.

Present during the function were Director Medical Services Major General (Dr) George Nganga and KDF medical personnel.
