Chief of Infrastructure Defence Headquarters Brig. Dennis Kamuri cuts a ribbon to officially open the Kaimbaga Healthcare Centre Water project on 25 August 2020.
Brigadier Dennis Kamuri Chief of Infrastructure Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Tuesday 25 August 2020 officially commissioned the Kaimbaga healthcare center water project in Nyandarua County on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
Speaking during the event, Brigadier Kamuri, reiterated the mandate of the Kenya Defence Forces as outlined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
“Apart from our core responsibility, which is to protect and defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya, we also have an obligation to participate in national developments such as this.” He said the project was one of the ways in which the Ministry of Defence partners with communities to improve livelihood.
The Lions Club of Nyandarua Central made a request for the borehole to be sunk. The president of the club Engineer Peter Karanja, disclosed that they had over the years been submitting requests to well-wishers and sponsors to sink a borehole, however, of the many individuals and organizations approached to assist, only KDF had acknowledged the request and also acted upon it.
All who spoke during the commissioning reiterated that the Kaimbaga water project will go a long way to impact the healthcare center and the community at large especially during this time of Covid 19 when hygiene is key to health.
The water pump is powered by 34 solar panels and can yield 12,000 cubic meters per hour. This meant it would successfully be able to provide enough water to all. The water project will benefit more than 12,000 residents with reliable, clean water for domestic use.
Engineer Karanja thanked the MoD for responding to their call for assistance and their commitment to the project to the very end.
MCA Hon. Mr. Gathure Wangui also expressed his gratitude to the KDF for helping him and his team realize the dream of water for his people.
The event culminated with a tour of the project, this included viewing the borehole and the pump station, the reservoir tanks, and the various water points, before planting a tree at the healthcare center compound.
Others Present for the commissioning ceremony were Colonel Public Affairs Zipporah Kioko, Health Centre committee and staff, Lions Club Nyandarua team, Hon Maitei from Ndaragwa, Kaimbaga Location Senior Chief, Local Leaders and residents of Kaimbaga area.
