Lieutenant General Joseph Kiptoo Kasaon is currently the Vice Chief of Defence Forces following his appointment on 17 April 2015. He has a Military career spanning close to 35 years having been commissioned in 1976. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Commander Kenya Army.
In 1976, he attended Cadet Officer training course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (UK). After commissioning, he was posted to 5 KR as a platoon Commander.
Lieutenant General Kasaon has served in various capacities, among others as Commandant National Defence College (Kenya), Commanding Officer 9 KR, Commandant School of Infantry, Head Of Writing Team at Defence Staff College, Colonel Intelligence at the Military Intelligence Corps, Chief of Operations Headquarters Kenya Army, Chief of Operations Defence Headquarters, Commandant School of Combat, General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Senior Directing Staff, Army at National Defence College and Commandant National Defence College Kenya.
Lieutenant General Kasaon was born on 10th January 1958 in Koibatek District, Rift Valley Province. He is married to Sarah Jerop Kasaon and they are blessed with four children, Lucia, Stephanie, Sylvia and Christopher.
