Commandant Defence Headquarters, Colonel Joseph Nguli plants a tree during the commissioning of Ulinzi Gardens.
Defence Headquarters Camp Administration Unit (CAU) Commandant Colonel Joseph Nguli on 5th July 2017 officially commissioned the Ulinzi Gardens at the Defence Headquarters, Hurlingham.
The Ulinzi Gardens sponsored by SAP International, envisages to provide a platform from which formed troops can be briefed, KDF sports teams can be launched for sporting events outside the country or be used as the high table and grounds for functions. In addition, covered boards have been erected to serve as Halls of Fame for KDF sporting personalities who have over time performed exemplarily well in international and continental sporting events and will initially bear the names of athletes and boxers. The Monument was erected in way to both celebrate soldiery and depict the terrain in which soldiers normally operate.
The Commandant thanked SAP International for their kind gesture by constructing the gardens out of goodwill. He further acknowledged that the gardens will not only provide space and ambience for military events but will also go a long way in appreciating KDFs sportsmen and women in form of a monument.
SAP International Director Ann Waceke was happy to handover the gardens to Defence Headquarters and thanked the military in according the company cooperation. She said the company admires KDF as a disciplined force and is looking forward to building partnerships that will benefit the military.
Present during the commissioning were Commanding Officer CAU Lieutenant Colonel Noah Kimeli, Officer in Charge Defence Forces Amateur Boxing Association (DEFABA) Lieutenant Colonel Paul Mung’ori, former boxing player and coach Lieutenant Colonel retired Aggrey Mwambi, retired KDF sportsmen, officers and service members.
