A delegation comprising of Members of the Defence Attaché Association of Kenya (DAAK) on 28 April 2022, visited the Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mombasa.
Led by the Dean of DAAK and the Indian Defence Attaché to Kenya, Naval Captain Nitesh Garg, the delegation first paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Brigadier Lawrence Gituma at the Headquarters.
In the meeting, comprehensive talks exploring current international naval engagements and relations between Kenya Navy and partner navies were held. The talks also revolved around reflections on future areas of collaboration in maritime safety and security.
Later, the delegation attended a presentation by Kenya Navy on Perspective of Maritime Security and the Measures put in place to harness the Blue Economy.
Further, the delegation visited Kenya Navy Training College where they were apprised on the Operations and Achievements of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator, which has fundamentally transformed training of Kenya Navy sailors and Seafarers from Government Agencies.
DAAK concluded the visit with a tour of the newly commissioned Kenya Shipyard Limited – Mombasa shipyard, where they were informed of its role in boosting Maritime Safety and Security by providing convenient and reliable ships repairs and refit services. The Defence Attachés also had a chance to witness the ongoing refit process for KNS Shupavu.
Present during the visit were Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe Brigadier Yahya Abdi and the Kenya Navy Headquarters Chief of Operations Colonel Michael Atondoyang.
