The former Army Commander, Lt Gen Njoroge, presented medals to officers and servicemen of the Kenya Army at the Kenya Army Headquarters on the 12 th February 2008. The medals had been awarded by the Head of State, who is the Commander in Chief of Defence Forces of Kenya for their exemplary devotion to their work beyond the normal call of duty.

The ceremony was attended by the former Deputy Army Commander, Maj Gen Mutwii, Senior staff officers and service personnel at the Headquarters. Various medals were presented

Col (Dr) Charles King'ori

Col (Dr) Kingori was the surgeon on duty at the Defence Forces Memorial Hospital when a fatal road accident occurred in Kajiado district, involving service personnel, was reported. He immediately organized, in liaison with the doctor in Kajiado District Hospital ,, for the management and evacuation of the injured. As a result of his prompt and timely action during the whole operation, only one serviceman died and twenty seven others went on to receive good treatment and recovered to their full health. He was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear ( MBS) for his dedicated and exemplary service.


During an operation in Mandera district, together with another serviceman, tracked and subdued armed gangsters without firing a shot. He recovered 2 Ak 47 rifles, two grenades and several rounds of ammunition, at great risk to his personal safety. He was awarded the Silver Star of Kenya ( SS - Military Division) for his Bravery
