SPORTS

Kenya has maintained an unprecedented international supremacy in sports. The Defence Forces is the major feeder of international teams in international competitions. In athletics the Army has produced World beaters in long distance events since the glory days of WO1 Naftali Temu (Olympic 10,000 Gold Medalist), WO2 Charles Asati (400 metres Gold Medalist), WO2 Moses Kiptanui (World 3000 metres Steeple Chase record holder), The legendary Sgt John Ngugi (World 5 times Cross country champion) and Cpl Tom Nyariki (Commonwealth 5000 meters Gold Medalist). The Army influence in sports has further catapulted the performance of Kenyan teams in other disciplines such as volley ball and Bisley Rifles.
