KENYA NAVY PARTICIPATES IN AFRICA-INDIA KEY MARITIME EXERCISE

Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Mohamed Shemote, recently led a delegation of Kenya Navy officers and sailors to participate in the Africa-India Key Maritime Engagement (AIKEYME). This significant event was officially inaugurated in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, by the Tanzanian Minister of Defence and National Service, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax.

The exercise, co-hosted by India and Tanzania, aims to strengthen maritime security cooperation among participating nations. It serves as a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing expertise, and addressing regional maritime challenges such as piracy and trafficking. The Kenya Navy’s involvement underscores its commitment to regional security and its dedication to enhancing interoperability with partner nations.

The inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a six-day program that includes two phase exercises; Harbour phase and Sea Phase.

Kenya Navy’s active participation in EX AIKEYME reflects its dedication to contributing to the collective efforts of African and Indian maritime forces in promoting peace and stability across the region.

Also present during the inauguration were the High Commissioner of India, Bishwadip Dey, the Chief of Defence Forces Tanzania, General Jacob Nkunda, the Commander Tanzania Navy, Major General Ramadhan Hassan, among others.
