KAOC GOES GREEN

Kenya Army Ordinance Corps (KAOC) personnel in conjunction with stakeholders from Greens of Africa Foundation and the University of Nairobi recently took part in a tree planting exercise at the University of Nairobi Veterinary Farm, Nairobi.

The exercise was part of the Environmental Soldier Program initiative by the KDF aimed at mitigating environmental degradation. Led by the Corps Commander Colonel Fredrick Chelogam, the soldiers planted over 8000 varied species of trees.

In his speech, Col Chelogam emphasized on the importance of planting of trees as a strategic act of service by contributing to environmental resilience and the nation’s future. He urged the soldiers not to just plant the seedlings but to grow trees.

“A tree is our most intimate contact with nature. Trees are essential to life on Earth. When you plant a tree, you’re not only doing something great for the environment, you’re also participating in a global effort to combat climate change.” noted Col Chelogam.

Col Chelogam also echoed the importance of such collaborations with other like-minded entities terming it a powerful symbol of unity, shared responsibility and collective action for a sustainable future.

CEO Greens of Africa Foundation Dr. Jedidah Wanyeki congratulated the KAOC personnel for their efforts in conserving the environment. “Planting a tree is the easiest way to align yourself with the cosmic rhythm. This action is symbolic of participating in the broader ecosystem and natural processes that extend far beyond our immediate understanding,” she highlighted.

Kenya Defence Forces has so far planted over 71 million trees since the inception of the program. The Ministry of Defence has dedicated every fourth Wednesday of the month to tree planting in a bid to achieve its target by the year 2032.
