The Delta Company of the 40 Ranger Battalion, deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) conducted its Annual Ranger Physical Challenge at Kenya Navy Base, Manda Bay in Lamu County.
Brigadier William Kamoiro, Commander Operation Amani Boni, who graced the event, commended the Delta Company for their unwavering dedication and resilience during the Annual Ranger Physical Challenge. He emphasized the critical importance of continuous physical training, noting that peak fitness is not just a requirement but a necessity for mission success in the complex and demanding operational environment of the Boni Enclave. He further urged the troops to embrace every training opportunity with seriousness and purpose, as it sharpens their combat edge and strengthens their bond as an elite fighting force.
Speaking during the event, Delta Company’s Second-in-Command Captain Nigel Ayisi highlighted the importance of the challenge, noting that it not only pushes Rangers to their limits and instills humility, but also offers a moment to honor the sacrifice of fellow Rangers, both officers and service personnel who gave their all in service.
He further reminded participants to always keep in mind the Rangers Creed: “Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong, and morally straight. I will shoulder more than my share of the task, whatever it may be, one hundred percent and then some.Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained Soldier.”
The challenge unfolded through a sequence of physically demanding events, each carefully crafted to push the Rangers beyond their perceived limits. It began with 200 pull-ups, a test of sheer upper-body strength and endurance, while demanding immense mental focus. This was immediately followed by push-ups, 100-meter tire drag, and 0.5-mile stretcher run, further exhausting the body and emphasizing on muscular endurance under strain. Each of these components served not only as a measure of physical capability and mental toughness but also as a testament to the Rangers’ unity and unyielding commitment to one another.
The rigorous challenge was meant to strengthen the unit cohesion, foster esprit de corps, and uphold high physical fitness standards that define the Ranger Regiment. The challenge is designed to evaluate both the physical and mental readiness of the personnel, measuring their capacity to perform during routine missions as well as high-pressure emergency scenarios.
