The Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, accompanied by the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Her Excellency (Ms) Namgya Khampa, on 16 May 2025 commissioned The Kenya Navy Hospital (TKNH) Radiology Complex in a ceremony held at the Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Mombasa.
During the ceremony, the dignitaries unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the official opening of the state-of- the- art facility equipped with an ultra-modern 128 slice CT scan machine, followed by a comprehensive tour of the facility to witness its advanced capabilities.
The facility and the CT scan machine are both donations to the Kenya Defence Forces by the Government of India and is set to enhance the hospital’s capability in providing specialised radiological services to its personnel and families.
In his address, General Kahariri expressed gratitude to the Indian Government for its continued support underscoring the strategic and transformative value of the new facility to KDF personnel and their families.
“This facility will significantly augment our medical capacities at the Kenya Navy ensuring personnel and their dependents receive world class healthcare,” said General Kahariri.
He also acknowledged the robust bilateral relations between the two nations noting that the collaboration exemplified the power of diplomacy and strategic alliances in fostering tangible improvements in healthcare and defence cooperation.
“This accomplishment is as a result of a strong and enduring partnership – one grounded in mutual respect, strategic cooperation and shared aspirations between the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of India,” expressed General Kahariri.
Her Excellency (Ms) Namgya Khampa, praised the enduring cooperation between the two nations highlighting the historical friendship and shared vision of enhancing and promoting quality healthcare.
She reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s development goals especially in Defence Cooperation and medical care services.
“This initiative is a testament to the historical friendship between India and Kenya. It reflects our shared vision of enhancing defence collaboration and promoting quality healthcare,” affirmed H.E (Ms) Namgya Khampa.
Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno, lauded the new development citing its critical role and significant impact on the morale and well-being of the personnel and their families which directly contributes to operational readiness.
“The impact of this donation on the morale and well-being of our personnel and their families cannot be overstated. The addition of this facility will further empower accurate and timely diagnosis which will undoubtedly lead to improved patient outcomes and experiences,” stated Major General Otieno.
The ceremony marked a significant leap in the Kenya Defence Forces continued efforts to modernize its infrastructure particularly in diagnostic and imaging services.
