The Kenya Defence Forces, under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers, local chiefs, and residents, took part in a vital peace and security baraza held at CIM Naudo Mission Station in Silale, Tiaty East, Baringo County.
The engagement addressed key regional concerns including persistent banditry—both in its traditional and evolving forms—which has severely undermined economic development and disrupted education. It also tackled inter-community rivalry manifesting through boundary disputes, revenge attacks, stereotyping, and general mistrust, all of which hinder peaceful coexistence. Additionally, the forum emphasized the role of economic development by highlighting the importance of secure trade routes to allow sellers and buyers of livestock and agricultural produce to access markets without the fear of highway robbery and violent attacks.
Speaking at the baraza, Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. Aaron Chemaset, emphasized the vital link between peace and development. He underscored the importance of investing in education as a cornerstone for long-term regional stability. He called on community members to work closely with security agencies to foster lasting peace and progress. Additionally, he urged parents to prioritize their children’s education and actively support local security initiatives.
During the baraza, Major Felix Mackenzie, representing the Commander Operation Maliza Uhalifu, Brigadier Joel Arimi, emphasized the vital importance of mutual trust and collaboration between security forces and the local community. He noted that the success of the KDF mission hinges on strong community engagement and support. Major Mackenzie stressed that eradicating cattle rustling is key in achieving lasting peace and unlocking meaningful development in the region. He called on community leaders, elders, and youth to unite in this effort, reminding them that true security and prosperity can only be achieved through shared responsibility and collective goodwill.
Local residents also commended the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for its intervention, saying that the presence of security personnel in the region had significantly contributed to restoring peace and curbing criminal activities. They expressed hope that continued collaboration between the community and security agencies would lead to long-term stability and development. Their sentiments reinforced the view that addressing the root causes of instability requires not only enforcement but also compassion and empowerment.
