In line with its 2025 theme, “Committed to Financial Independence,” Defence Savings and Credit Co-operative Society (DESACCO) successfully conducted a series of Financial Literacy and Member Engagement Programs across Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in the North Rift region.
The initiative aimed at equipping deployed KDF personnel with essential financial knowledge to help them make informed economic and financial decisions, even while serving in operational environments.
During the sessions, Service Personnel were taken through key topics including personal financial planning, budgeting, debt management, savings, and responsible borrowing. They were also sensitized on the variety of affordable products and services offered by DESACCO, designed to meet their unique needs while deployed.
The engagements provided a valuable platform for members to interact directly with DESACCO management staff, raise concerns, and receive guidance tailored to their personal financial journeys. Questions around loan access, investment options, and savings schemes were addressed with practical insights and solutions.
Speaking during the engagements, Maj Nelphas Wanjala, who’s the Head of Business Development, affirmed DESACCO’s commitment to reach its members irrespective of nature & place of deployment to journey with them towards Financial Independence. “Our goal is to ensure that every deployed Service Personnel has access to the right tools and knowledge needed to secure their financial wellbeing and support their families while remaining Mission ready” he added.
The initiative reinforced DESACCO’s commitment to supporting KDF personnel deployed far and wide. By empowering them with financial literacy, the SACCO contributed not only to individual well-being but also to improved mission effectiveness.
