MOI AIR BASE CELEBRATES CULTURAL DIVERSITY

On 23rd May 2025, Moi Air Base (MAB) was transformed into a vibrant mosaic of colour, culture, and camaraderie as officers and service members gathered at Sina Makosa Stadium, Eastleigh, for the inaugural Cultural Diversity Day. Held under the theme “Soaring Together: A Celebration of Cultural Diversity,” the event was presided over by the Base Commander, Brigadier Bernard Oluoch, and marked a significant milestone in the Base’s ongoing efforts to promote unity, inclusivity, and national cohesion within the Kenya Defence Forces.

Representatives from Kenya’s diverse communities: – including the Maasai, Coastal, Nyanza, Central, Cushitic, Western, Eastern, and Rift Valley regions came together to honour the rich cultural heritage that defines the nation. Beyond its celebratory nature, the occasion served as a strategic affirmation that diversity is a force multiplier, enhancing the strength and resilience of mission-ready teams.

The event coincided with global observances of the World Day for Cultural Diversity, a United Nations initiative commemorated annually on 21st May to highlight the importance of intercultural dialogue in fostering peace, sustainable development, and social harmony.
In his remarks, Brigadier Oluoch Commended the organising committee for their exceptional efforts and underscored the deeper meaning behind the day’s festivities.

“Today’s celebration is more than a display of music, dance, and attire, it is a reaffirmation of our shared values: respect, inclusivity, and unity in diversity. At Moi Air Base, we mirror our nation’s soul, diverse in origin but united in purpose. From the coast to the highlands, our people bring not only skills and discipline but also traditions that strengthen our collective identity and operational cohesion,” he said.
By showcasing Kenya’s cultural wealth within a military framework, Moi Air Base demonstrated that mission success is built upon unity and that such unity thrives when rooted in mutual understanding and appreciation of diverse backgrounds. This celebration was not merely a social gathering, but a strategic initiative to bolster esprit de corps, morale, and mission alignment.

Distinguished guests in attendance included the CEO of the Defence Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (DESSACCO), Brigadier Nehemiah Kemei; the Principal, Defence Forces Technical College, Brigadier Dahir Ali; senior officers, officers, family members of service personnel.
