MOI AIR BASE MEN’S FELLOWSHIP HOLDS RESETTLEMENT AND TRANSITION SEMINAR

On 14 June 2025, the Moi Air Base(MAB) Men’s Fellowship team from St. Peter’s Church on the Hill, under the leadership of their patron Colonel James Odhiambo, held a resettlement and transition seminar in Makuyu, Murang’a County. The seminar, which was facilitated by Warrant Officer Class 1 (Rtd) Samuel Gaithuma, was deeply insightful and impactful, drawing from his vast knowledge and expertise in retirement planning.

The objective of the seminar was to equip participants with essential life skills and prepare them for life beyond active duty. Key topics covered included financial planning, debt-free living, transitioning from poverty to investment, product marketing, healthy living, how to get started after retirement, and overcoming the fear of the unknown.

While addressing the attendees, WO1 (Rtd) Gaithuma emphasized the importance of planning for retirement well in advance. He highlighted the need to save while still in service, adopt a healthy lifestyle, and nurture strong community ties at home.

“Your journey from military service to retirement is significant, and it comes with its own set of challenges,” he said. “Always prepare for a second career that you can pursue after exiting the military. Take every opportunity to showcase your skills, this helps you gain experience and clarity on post-retirement options. Once you retire, understand how others navigate life beyond service. Ensure you conduct a thorough analysis before embarking on any new venture.”

He also encouraged participants to start small “Remember, retirement is not the end of life; it’s an opportunity to explore new and exciting challenges. Pursue something you’re passionate about to keep your mind engaged. Start with what you have, and stay focused.”

Participants also had the opportunity to tour WO1 (Rtd) Gaithuma’s farm for practical insights into post-retirement ventures.

The seminar provided an empowering platform for service members to begin thinking critically and proactively about life beyond active duty. It inspired participants to approach retirement with discipline, strategy, and a growth mind set.
