The Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Soipan Tuya, on Monday, 16th June 2024, presided over the official handover of a new school bus to Moi Forces Academy (MFA) Nairobi. The bus was jointly donated through the contributions of parents and the school’s alumni.
The modern 46-seater bus is expected to ease transportation challenges, enhance capability for educational tours, and support the school’s expanding co-curricular programs. It is also customized to cater for learners with special needs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, CS Tuya emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting educational institutions affiliated with the military.
“Education is a critical pillar of national development. Investing in facilities like transport, we are not just empowering schools but securing the future of our country,” she said.
The Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Fatuma Ahmed, echoed her sentiments, noting that education is an investment that significantly contributes to national defence and growth.
“If you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go together,” she quoted.
Moi Forces Academy has a long-standing reputation for academic excellence and discipline. The school serves both dependents of military personnel and civilians, fostering a culture of unity, resilience, and national service.
The school’s Principal, Madam Jacqueline Okwaro, expressed gratitude for the generous gesture, stating that the new bus will greatly improve students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom.
“With this bus, our learners can now fully participate in academic competitions, sports tournaments, and other outreach activities,” she noted.
Parents and students also welcomed the donation, recognizing it as a significant boost to the school’s mobility and logistical capabilities.
Also present during the event were: the Deputy Commander of the Kenya Air Force, Brigadier Samwel Kipkorir, Base Commander of Moi Air Base, Brigadier Bernard Oluoch, MWAK representatives led by Mrs. Monica Tarus, Sub-County Education Rep, TSC rep, senior Kenya Air Force Officers, school administration, alumni, teachers, parents and pupils.
