DEEPENING MUTUAL COOPERATION

The Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, on 17 June 2025 received His Excellency Matsuura Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya, at Defence Headquarters.

The courtesy call aimed to deepen bilateral defence cooperation, advance joint training initiatives, and reaffirm the shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability.

Key discussions focused on finalising technical arrangements for the upcoming Exercise 07JXO, enhancing collaboration through planned port calls by Japanese naval vessels, and acknowledging Japan’s continued support in strengthening Kenya’s maritime operational capacity. This includes support to the Kenya Navy and the Kenya Coast Guard Service through equipment provision and specialist training.

Also present during the meeting were the Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Doctrine and Training, Major General Fred Leuria, along with senior officers from the Kenya Defence Forces and the Embassy of Japan.
